Not sure for the ratio, I just measured it approximately, don't really know what it stands for

Hello Sailors,

Thanks for all the information on -originally- my question on The Cap Istanbul Race.
Especially the file provided by Ricoo with a complete desktop setup was totally helpfull!

Where he gets all his information from I don't know ......
On the VR Forum I found some Start - Stop coordinates, but I'm sure Ricoo will heave used these in his setup.

* Leg 1: Start @ start latitude="43.003" longitude="6.308" date="2010-09-19 13:00:00" town="Hyères". / Finish @ stop latitude="36.740" longitude="14.531" date="2010-09-25 17:00:00" town="Ragusa"
* Leg 2: start latitude="36.740" longitude="14.531" date="2010-09-26 13:00:00" town="Ragusa" / stop latitude="37.935" longitude="23.667" date="2010-10-02 17:00:00" town="Athènes"
* Leg 3: start latitude="37.936" longitude="23.667" date="2010-10-03 12:00:00" town="Athènes" / stop latitude="37.355" longitude="27.195" date="2010-10-07 17:00:00" town="Didim"
* Leg 4: start latitude="37.350" longitude="27.177" date="2010-10-08 12:00:00" town="Didim" / stop latitude="39.800" longitude="26.000" date="2010-10-11 17:00:00" town="Bozcaada"
* Leg 5: start latitude="40.421" longitude="26.710177" date="2010-10-12 12:00:00" town="Gelibolu" / stop latitude="40.916" longitude="28.928" date="2010-10-15 17:00:00" town="Istambul"

I've never been better prepared than this time !! :-)

Still I have some more questions:
1] Is it possible to adopt the grid of VR Tool to the wind grid of the game? Now it is 10 to 2,5 afaik. And the grid (sometimes) is important for strategy / course.
2] I' ve exprienced and read about problems with Weather Routing.In the TransAt I learned to know it as a valuable tool and use it with pleasure.
Will it work in CapIstanbul? How to use it with islands and turns in the course (as WR doesn't recognize land)? Determine intermediate goals?
3] Are people interested in discussing or sharing strategies?

Regards
Ernst

Ricoo, I found that VRTool tracks are changing to next wind 3 hours later... after 15 hours and not 12 hours. Any idea why? :?

You have to set up the winds reference time properly in the "Other" tab (Divers in the french version)
Time from last wind update should work alright, but you may prefer to choose the time stamp + time zone option. When I do, I use -2 for the time zone, but I don't know if this depends on your real location and time zone.
I also use the given time date sometimes, which I set with two hours sooner than the actual time in France. For example, I set 11:00 when it's 1PM here.
All this is a bit tricky, I have not understood everything, but I do with it. Maybe Omar could tell us a bit more ???
I guess this is made complicated because of the timestamp given in the game xml file which is GMT
Also check that the Age of the wind grid is correct (0), but I'm sure you didn't change that.

Wind forecast age

Postby omar » Mon Sep 20, 2010 12:39 pm

In the last versions I added options to determinate
the age of the wind forecast. This is used by the track designer
and WR to synchronize the wind data with the tracks being planned.

There are now 3 options:
* Time from last wind update - The classic option.
Forecast 0 starts at the time of the last wind change,
regardless of the forecasts timestamp.
12h regattas work this way.

* windgrid timestamp + time zone - Forecast 0 starts at the timestamp plus
a given time zone (p.e. +3). Some small scale regattas with 1h wind forecasts worked this way.
Right after the download of new winds, you may already be in forecast +3 for example.

* given date/time - This may be used to plan a regatta before the start.

The options allow the determination of the "Forecast age", used by track designer
and WR as the starting time of new tracks ( in relation to currently loaded wind forecast table).

Is this confusing or what? :geek:

What an exiting finish of this first CI leg !
It's a matter of minutes or yards.

I still wonder how you can compute an optimal track.
Not use WR , but a mathematically correct approach.

Anyone suggestions / wanna share knowledge ?
