Re: does anyone actually get the wind ?

Postby Neptune » Mon Sep 28, 2009 12:05 am

I have found the plugin-meteo and are current one dated 27/09/2009 7:28 PM
I go to WIND - Load XML - choose a plug-in file and it does appear in the WIND GRIDS box but when I push the F2 key a second file called meteo_-20_40.xml also is shown in the box and it shows the winds on the chart.
However the source is volvogame.virtualregatta.com and the winds are from 2009 - July -02 06:00:00

The same occurs with files from GRIB2XML

I am using VRT version 1.50 and I did a clean install removing all the folder left by the previous application before installing. I am using Firefox on Windows XP

Given the fact that VOR info still show up I suspect that VRT calls for it since it is no where on my PC - POSSIBLE ?

I believe VRT should be able to load "XML." file from either source. Is there a version that does that? if so would you please let me know how to get a copy.

Thank You

Pushing the F2-button will always result in loading the files from an internetserver, while using the menu-option uses the file on your dsik. This are two different things. In the weekend, I've tested VRtool on several other computers and I could use the F2-button with the desired resuld. But it's very important that you first open a .cht file after you start VRtool. That means that you can't use the old desktopfile any longer.
Maybe it helps when you throw awy the world3.cht-file and use another chart. On the (french) forums from Virtualregatta you can find some.
But remiember the warning from Omar that using the F2-button maybe isn't legal anymore, so using it is at your own risk!

By the way, loading the .xml-file from your computer is hard working. When you have collected several files into your map, you can also save them as one .xml-file, so the next time you only have to load one file. Save a lot of work, but after 12 hours, you have to do the same again...

I don't use a precise map.
The only one that is important is the one from MP.
When I need a special point, I zoom into MP map then note the position I want and add a mark within VR Tool.

Thank for your reply. However it does not work on any of my 3 PC.

"Pushing the F2-button will always result in loading the files from an internetserver, while using the menu-option uses the file on your disk." I assume you are referring to loading the wind file from the menu. This is not a problem. The file load and are show in the Wind Grid square.

There are 2 ways of applying the wind to the chart after loading it in the "Wind Grid " they are " Position the mouse cursor over the area of interest and press the [F2] key (or [Ctrl] [W]) . This will download the wind forecast for that area. Repeat the procedure as needed to populate the field." this is what is written in the instructions.

Is there an other way ? because those 2 have the same effect. Ignoring the file loaded and using the one from VOR that I have no idea of were it comes from.

"Maybe it helps when you throw awy the world3.cht-file and use another chart. On the (french) forums from Virtualregatta you can find some." although Canada is a bilingual country I only know English and Italian

Would you be kind enough to send me the chart file you use and a step by step screen shot of the way you do it ,my email address is mauro4x@gmail.com

I can handle only so much frustration

VRTool 1.6 released

Postby omar » Mon Sep 28, 2009 4:27 pm

I released version 1.6 of vrtool. The new feature is a wizard to import
data directly from Firefox file cache without using httpFox (but still using Firefox).
This will allow offline usage of vrtool with Clipper importing
winds and boat data from local disk.

1) go to http://www.tecepe.com.br/nav/vrtool/.
Download vrtool installer. Save it to disk.
Terminate vrtool and run setupVRTool.exe to install.

2) Open vrtool. Use the menu "File>Import from Firefox" ( or use Ctrl-I )

3) Click button "1. Scan Firefox cache"

4) Select files to be imported (winds and/or boat data)

5) Click button "2. Import selected files".

Done.

The full "import procedure" can be set to repeat
every 10 minutes (Auto import). In this case, put the game
application in auto mode too (10 minute updates).

Note that you don't need wind updates, except two times a day.
So keep "[ ] Include winds" unchecked most ot the time.

Hello omar,

Thanks for the good work, but I can't get it working.
Probably because I'm using Vista, which makes that the path to the cache a little bit different is (C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Temp\plugtmp). But when I fill in this path (or a C:\Users\myname\AppData\Local\Temp or C:\Users\Alex\AppData\Local\), VRtool can't find any file.
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks for your effort but v 1.6 does not seem to resolve the problem.
the Cache Path = C:\Documents and Settings\Mauro\AppData\Local\Temp\ which is the one that show up automatically does not have any result.
The files in my case are at = C:\Documents and Settings\Mauro\Local Setting\Temp\Plugtemp-3 ( BTW a new Plugtemp folder is created from time to time it started at -1 and is now at -3 I believe a new folder is created when the PC is restarted)
In this folder there are 9 files starting at "plugin-meteo_-10_30.xml "
7 files starting at "plugin-vpp_1_1.csv
2 files "pluin-auth_inscription_boat.php
3 files "plugin-get"php.
All these files get up dated every 10 min.
V 1.6 does not pick up any of these files either.
Hope this help
