Now I understand all the problem

I'm not a programmer but would it not be possible to get the information required for VRTool from the Virtual regatta program running on our own PC ? that would mean that both Virtual Regatta and VRTool would have to run at the same time.

They cant stop what is coming into my PC can they ?

Failing that can VRTool be set up to receive the wind from Grib files . That way we could position manually where our boat is located in VRT and still be able to use most of it's features.

Not the best solution but better than none.

If you read from the beginning of this subject, there is the explanation (MP doesn't want tools to get data from their servers directly).

You will also find how you can have VR Tool work with this new rule.

You can load the winds you get locally and update your boat position, as well as your friends.
For this, find the correct local directory, called plugtmp-x (where x is a number)
and you will find plugin-meteo_xx_yy.xml files that you can load within VR Tool (twice a day after winds change)
and the plugin-get_user.php file with all your boat (and friends) information.
Copy the content of this file and use the paste button within VR tool.

I do it when necessary and VR Tool is usable as before.

Have fun.

I understand how to get vrtools working, only thing is that I cant find the plugin-meteo_xx_yy.xml file in my vista pc. In xp you could "unhide" hidden system files, but cant do that yet in vista, any thoughts?

Mine is in
C:\Documents and Settings\xxx\AppData\Local\Temp\

If you write this (modify xx with you username) in the adress bar of explorre, it should go directly, even if it is hidden.

Hello Bob. Good to hear from you, "The great Wind Wizard" :geek:

People have been asking me where they can get decent wind forecasts these days.
I say either 1) go digging the browser cache or 2) use Bob Zhang's excelent Grib2XML.

Is there any other way?

Thanks for the info!!!!!!!!!

I'm getting there slowly ;) I found the files you refer to but I can't seem to be able to load them.

I tried copy them and then using the clipboard in the BOAT section to PASTE them does not work.

Can you help ?

If you find a forecast from 72 hours sufficient, you go to the winds-tap in VRTools, opens the condig-panel (if nessecary) and fill in the server-box: clipper.virtualregatta.com. Go with the cursor to the map, press on "Set" and push the F2-button and see the miracle.
There's only one thing: you only get the wind for thea area where you put the cursor. So if you want the wind in another area, you have to move the cursor and press F2 again. But it's still a lot easier then loading al the xml-files.....
